Lukas Märtens of Germany wins the first Gold Medal of the swimming World Championships in the Men's 400 metre Freestyle. He touched in 3:42.35 to win gold, pipping silver medallist Australian Samuel Short by 0.02 seconds, with a time of 3:42.37. Woomin Kim of South Korea secured the bronze medal with a time of 3:42.60.
