Men's 100 metre Freestyle Results
David Popovici continued his fine form at these World Championships backing up his 200-metre freestyle gold with gold in the 100-metre freestyle. Facing stiff competition from American Jack Alexy and Australian Kyle Chalmers Popovici needed something special to win the gold. He produced a European and Championship record swim of 46.51 to win gold 4 tenths of a second ahead of Alexy in 46.92 with Chalmers swimming 47.17 to win the bronze medal. There was a shock early exit for world record holder and Olympic champion form Paris Pan Zhanle from China who could only manage 10th fastest in the semifinal meaning he did not progress to the final. Hopefully he will bounce back and add to the competitiveness of this event over the coming years.
