There was a surprise winner in the men’s 800 metre freestyle. Ahmed Jaouadi from Tunisia took the gold medal in 7:36.88. Over 3 seconds clear of second and third placed German pair of Sven Schwarz and Lukas Maertens in 7:39.96 and 7:40.19 respectively. Perhaps an even bigger surprise was that the Paris 2024 Olympic Champion Daniel Wiffen from Ireland could only manage 8^th place in the final, quite a large margin away from his best and the winning time. He will look to make some drastic improvements going through this next cycle in the build-up to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
